GP Web Client and Hanging Reports

Posted on by 1,115

Has anyone else in the field experienced a problem where you run a GP report and the GP Web Client appears hung and never renders the report?  We are seeing a failure rate of roughly 33% on a recent GP 2013 R2 deployment.  Typically when this problem occurs you can minimize and maximize the web browser and the report displays properly but that is not a guarantee and occasionally it will require the end user to open task manager and kill the GP Web Client all together.

We have a client that has a large user base with daily high volume public facing transactions through Dynamics GP and this problem is becoming prolific.

After considerable testing we have a uncovered a link between the hanging report and the Report Destination Dialogue box that appears when printing reports.  When we disable this dialogue box and print reports directly to screen we are unable to recreate the hanging reports problem.   While not a perfect solution it does provide some relief for the end users that are constantly having to kill the GP Web Client and reconnect with a long line of customers waiting to process their transaction.

If you are experiencing this issue, try the work around outlined above and this configuration change can be pushed out through SQL updates across most all GP reports.

While this solution works great for reports that include the "Ask Each Time" option, there are some GP native windows that do not have that option and always open the Report Destination dialogue box.  *Does anyone know how those dialogue boxes can be removed?*

  • RE: GP Web Client and Hanging Reports

It sounds like you're running into a known issue we have for Web Client on both the Dynamics GP 2013 and GP 2015 versions.

What we see is that when reports are printed to screen, they do not display and/or Web Client locks up intermittently until you minimize the IE browser window to return focus to the Web Client.

Right now, the target for a fix is the next release, though Development hasn't specifically stated which release it will be, though it doesn't appear to be the next release here due Nov. 2015.

We've been able to re-create this in Internet Explorer, Chrome and FireFox so it doesn't appear specific to IE, though it does appear to be a browser issue, as we also don't see any report-specific activity running at the time this issue occurs.

There doesn't appear to be any type of work-around either, other than minimizing the browser window as you mentioned.

    Thanks,
