First, Go to System Properties > Advanced Tab > Environment Variables > System Variables then click New.

Put "UserDnsDomain" on the Variable name. Put any value on the variable value.

run Registry Editor or regedit. go to

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\ComputerName\ActiveComputerName

put any value on the value data.

Install AX.

Note: After Installing AX, change your ActiveComputerName in the Registry to your default computer name. Use the Computer Name in installing the AOS (computer name before changing the registry.)

then restart.

RE: Install Microsoft Dynamics AX Ax on local system without Domain

    Hi Aldol,

Like Youri suggest, the best way is to use a virtual machine.

The easiest way is to install all components on one machine, this is also how MS provides demo VM's.

If you don't like the idea of creating a virtual machine and installing everything yourself, you can download ready-to-use demo VM's with everything you need from partnersource or customersource.

If you are new to virtualization, I would strongly suggest this.

If you don't have a login and/or don't mind installing everything yourself (I can assure you it's a good learning exercise :), just use tools like HyperV (needs win8 I believe), VMware or VirtualBox to create your own virtual machine.

Just create a virtual machine, and install Windows server on it, configure a domain controller, install sql server, AX, SharePoint etc...

    Hope this helps

Thank you, Youri. Please, if you can advise how I could do it. Could you provide some steps for it?

If I use the same Demo installation should I install SQL Server, SharePoint, etc., on the virtual machine?

    Thanks

Why can't you use a virtual machine instead?

RE: Install Microsoft Dynamics AX Ax on local system without Domain

Thank you, FSILVA, for your reply. As I mentioned in my post all 39 components/prerequisites did go through successfully and the only one that is Web site (SharePoint Central Administration) did not. So, it could mean that all needed components could be Ok except that one that I'd still need to resolve.

I don't want to be too stubborn on it but I'd need the AX for training and would need to find a way how to install it. Could you please suggest anything on it?

    Thanks

    Dont lose your time...

you wont be able to install a lot of other AX componentes without a domain controler (AD DS Server).

Thank you very much for your post.

I tried to install the AX 2012 Demo from a partner website on a local Win 7 Pro computer following your advice but still getting a one error regarding a Web site (SharePoint Central Administration) prerequisite as below (it's an only one error remains from 40 prerequisits validations):

"Web site (Microsoft SharePoint Central Administration):

The SharePoint Central Administration web site must be running

Ensure that a supported version of SharePoint is installed and the Central Administration web site is running.

If a supported version of SharePoint is installed, verify that the Central Administration web site has been configured by clicking Start > All Programs > Microsoft SharePoint Products > SharePoint Central Administration. Follow the instructions in the configuration wizard to configure the web site."

I did install the SharePoint Foundation 2010 on the same local computer following the link below:

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../ee554869(office.14).aspx

I can run Central Administration from the All Programs-> SharePoint 2010 Products and from the IIS Manager opening it in a browser.

So, I'm not sure what else could be done to satisfy the prerequisit requirement.

Please, advise if you might know how I could fix the prerequisite error to go through with the AX Demo installation.

    Thanks
