Opening a CHM file stored on local network from CRM online

Hi experts,

My client has CHM files stored in a directory/folder on their local network. Their customer service team accesses these CHM files remotely from their respective machines.

I need some way by which I can open the CHM files on click of a button on ribbon in CRM or some other optimized way for best user experience.

Please suggest me any way I can do the same.

Thanks,

Jon

Hi Jon, Directly you webapp is not suppose to talk to local storage. The easiest was I can think off is to have these files on Azure Blob storage, and a web service to retrieve them from CRM. We service will act a mediator between your CRM app and Blob storage. Dynamics will call the webservice hosted on your Azure environment and in turn web service will send you the file in byte stream.

I have done this kind of thing, pulling files from SharePoint onto Dynamics CRM.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Pranav

    Hi Pranav,

I tried the web service approach. But web service doesn't contain methods to open a CHM file.

    Thanks,

    Jon

Hi Jon, Let me clarify, default crm web services will not help as data is not stored in Dynamics crm application DB.

You need to have custom web services hosted on azure, having a logic to pick up files from Azure Blob and sending selected files in binary when called from Dynamics CRM.

Hope this clears your doubt.  :)

    Regards,

    Pranav

    Hi Jon,

In addition if you have any server   you can host the files in the server or may be in the google drive , take the URL and point it in a Iframe or  any web resource in dynamics 365 .

    Hi Pranav, Goutam,

    Thank you for your replies.

I'll see if these approaches work for me.
