Dynamics GP 18.5 Workflows Take a Long Time to Submit

We have Dynamics GP 18.5 and have enabled workflows for POs, vendor approval, payment batches, and GL batches.  In the last few months, the workflow submit function can sometimes take 30-40 seconds to complete.  The comment window will pop-up and then when you hit submit it just sits there for a long time before finally completing.  I am wondering if one of the workflow tables is getting really big or something but I don't see any workflow related cleanup/purge functions?  Anyone have any ideas what to look for?

    Ensure that the workflow tables are not excessively large. You can run a query on tables like WF100002, WF100003, WF30100, and WFI10002 to check for any unusually large data

    Thanks but what is "excessively large"?  I have the following 4 WF tables in one of our company DBs:
     
    Table            Records
    WFI10002    13494
    WFI10003    26832
    WFI10004    11251
    WFI10005    0
     
    The bigger question is what do I do to fix the problem?  How do I archive or purge the older completed workflows?

    Hi, same issue here. We just upgraded to 18.7 and the workflow is slow. It takes about a minute for the approval request to go through. 
    Can this be optimized?
