Item Code (Unused Field?)

I see in the IV00101 table there is a field named ITEMCODE. This is listed in the various field listings as "Item Code". I can't find anywhere that this field is maintained on the Item Card or related screens.

I found a REALLY old post about Item Code having been added in GP 6.0 but it wasn't used and was for a future "international" requirement.

So two questions:  Is this field really not used? If it is not being used, what would the potential danger be of using Modifier to add it to the item card and using it. We'd like to use it to store the UPC Code.

Thanks,

I think this field is no longer use in GP versions 8 to 2013. So, you can use this field to store the UPC code values. It won't make any issues.

Have a look on the below link.

    Hope this helps!!!

This field is no longer used, I have used it in few implementations to store additional item's details with no issues.

I have used this field for other item data also. I stumbled on it a few years ago and realized it was an "orphan" field so I have been using it as a "user defined" field.

I added the item code field to the Item Maintenance window.  Do you know how I would now add to the Item Inquiry window?

Since the Item Code field does not exist in the Item Quantities table, you'll need to use Modifier with VBA to open the IV00101 table and bring in the Item Code field. There are plenty of examples out there as to how to accomplish getting the attachment in VBA. I know Mariano Gomez has some good information on his blog.

    Kind regards,

Thank you Leslie for the shout out.

Although this is an orphan field I caution every one of you using this field to be cautious. If Microsoft decides to reuse this field or simply drop it from the data model you will lose your data. With that said, I have tons of examples on my blog as Leslie mentioned showing how to use VBA and even Visual Studio Tools to drive the user interface for fields that need to be stored with the standard GP data.
