Suppressing Static Marketing Lists from Customer Journeys?

We recently moved to Dynamics 365 for Marketing from Pardot. I am re-creating Customer Journeys that I also had in Pardot, but I want to make sure that if a contact received the Customer Journey in Pardot, then they won't receive it again now that we're using Dynamics.

I have created Static Marketing Lists of who should get the Customer Journeys, but I also imported the COMPLETED lists from Pardot. I want to be able to suppress the COMPLETED list from my new Static list but that seems to be impossible.

I thought that I could maybe create a segment that pulls those people from that list and then I could exclude in the journey, but I am not sure how to do that.

Any help?

A few options.  You can do a journey suppression on the customer journey.  If you look in the general section, it's on the right hand side.  Also you can use segments by referencing the marketing lists and using the exclude from join.

    Hi

Exactly as mentioned earlier, you can use this list as a suppression segment directly in the CJ. When yo select the segment tile, include 2 children: one is the normal list, and the other is the suppression.

Right, but these are not Segments, they are Static Marketing Lists. I am trying to suppress a Marketing List, not a Segment (that is pulled from a query). Both suggestions above do not pull up Marketing Lists, unless I'm missing something. You can only "Include" Marketing Lists, the Exclude option is greyed out when added to the segment tile.

Is there a way to create a Segment and pull a query to pull in Contacts from Static Marketing Lists?

You can reference static marketing lists in segments.  There are some details here:

Yes, I have tried that before, but I get this error when turning the Segment live:

The segment query isn't valid, or the target profile doesn't match.
I am only including the Marketing List > Name > Is > NAME HERE (copied exactly from my List, so I don't have typos).

All list must resolve to contacts.  You need to join it in the query back to contacts and it will work.  There's some examples in the documentatyion.

Thank you for your help! I had success from the documentation above. :)
