Dynamics 365 App for Outlook sync to CRM

Hi all,

I've got a question. We're currently transitioning from the old COMs plugin to the new Dynamics 365 App for Outlook as the older plugin tends to have performance issues and periodically disappear from Outlook due to poor performance. The problem is that some of our users have tracked quite a few recurring appointments using the old plugin back to Dynamics and because of the fact that the plugin gets disabled automatically due to performance when a user cancels a recurring meeting in Outlook it doesn't sync back to Dynamics 365.

What ends up happening is that you have a bunch of recurring appointments in Dynamics still going whilst it's cancelled in Outlook. When we make the transition from the old plugin to the new one, we had to set the appointments to server side sync and what it does is it has pushed the recurring appointments still active in Dynamics back to Outlook and resent all the meetings to stakeholders even though its been cancelled.

I'm looking for a way to disable this sync and I've noticed in the System settings area there is a sync tab with:

- User Filters

- System Filters

- Synchronization Fields

I could potentially see a few ways I could resolve the issue but would just like to get an opinion from the broader community.

In the "User Filters" tab I see I can deactivate the "My Recurring Appointments" filter. Could I confirm whether this will stop the sync from Dynamics 365 back to Outlook and subsequently sending meeting invites again?

If I disable the filter will it then no longer allow a user to use the Dynamics 365 app for Outlook to track appointments back to Dynamics?

There is also a "Synchronization Fields" which allows me to control the direction of the sync. I see I can set certain fields in appointments to only sync 1 way (e.g. in my case I only want Outlook appointment fields to sync back to Dynamics and not the other way round). If I set all the fields in appointments to sync only from Outlook to Dynamics will it stop the recurring meetings from sending messages to contacts?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
