Render a Barcode in a CRM Report

Looking for someone with experience / knowledge on rendering a barcode in a CRM / SSRS report.  We were hoping this was going to be relatively straightforward but a solution is proving elusive and we seem to be wasting a lot of time getting one step further and then several back!

We downloaded a barcode font and added the barcode Id as a field to a report that we were configuring in Visual Studio, which is designed as a basic temporary Membership Card that can be emailed to our Members while they wait for their physical card to arrive.

This worked ok when we opened the report in report viewer, and also when exported to Word, but it did not work in PDF format which is the format in which the report would be added to the email. Presumably because the barcode font is localised on our machines for Word, but not available to Adobe...?

We then tried using a custom code component (www.idautomation.com/.../) that would render the Visual Id into a barcode then embed an image of that barcode in the report. However, when trying to upload that report into CRM it failed and according to our research in MS online information resources, reports with custom code components cannot be loaded into CRM due to RDL Sandboxing which cannot be switched off.

Any help or pointers gratefully received!

Many thanks,

Jen
