What is the difference between "posted date" and "posting date"?

I am looking at the columns available in SmartList under Purchasing. As I am looking at them, I see a "Posting Date" column option and a "Posted Date" column option. I select both thinking they'd be the same date, but they are not. Posting date is the date of the batch (if a batch was used) or the date of the document (if a batch isn't used), but what the heck is Posted Date and why does that date vary from Posting Date?

I checked the glossary and there wasn't anything about Posted Date. Even when I search the help, everything comes up saying "Posting Date" not "Posted Date".

Please help!

    Hi  Angela,

Posting date is date transaction affected the account balances in General ledger whereas Posted date is day batch was posted.

Rubal, thank you. That makes much more sense now.
