Change Reservation Hierarachy and Tracking Dimensions on an Existing Item

We have been successful in changing the reservation heirarchy and tracking dimensions on some items using the Periodic Tasks Change Tracking Dimension Group for items.  However, we have some items that are currently Batch Tracked and want to change them to Serial Tracking.  All of the transactions are financially closed and there is no inventory.  But for some items it still will not allow us to make the change.
The error reads /The dimension group must be enabled for batches./
Has anyone else experienced this for some items and not others?

    Hi,
Do you mean that items that cannot change the reservation hierarchy are in batch tracking status? Note If you want to use warehouse management processes and apply reservation hierarchies, you must set up at least one storage dimension group with at least one storage dimension. Hi,
There has been a similar discussion on the forums before, and you can refer to this old thread, although this is from the AX forum, but I think users of SCM applications can also refer to it: Solved: Dimension group AX 2012 (dynamics.com). There is an official document that provides some information about inventory dimensions and dimension groups.
    Best regards,
    Kevin

    Hi,

I have covered multiple possible scenarios for changing tracking dimension for Batch/Serial enabled items. You may follow this link for more :

Mostly this will solve your issue, however if you have any further question please feel free to reply here. My suggestion will be try understanding the approach steps I have explained and even then if it is not resolved please take snapshot of the error/warning message.

    Kind regards,

Thank you for your references and comments.  We had to remove the actual Batches that have been created even though they are no longer in inventory etc.
