How to easily view help text for a particular field within a form

Is there an easy way to view the help text for a field I'd like to know more about?

For example, go to 'Released product details' -> 'Manage inventory' -> 'Shipping and receiving' -> Arrival handling time.  If I just want help text specific to the 'Arriving handling time', how do you view it?  I tried clicking inside the field and hit F1 key.  Didn't produce what I wanted.

Thanks!

    Hi Steve,

The F1 HELP feature is related to the form that you are on, so if you have a specific field you want to know information about, you can press F1 and search for it.

Some forms however does not have help assigned to it and may take you to the default landing page for help. It might have to do with your help server not beeing updated or that there is no help file associated.

Try search for "AX 2012 MSDN + your field" on Bing (or Google if you for some reason prefer that) and you'll find this quickly.

    Like this: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa615563.aspx

You can also create your own help files if you want that override the standard Microsoft help files. I often use this to provide quick access to business processes for end users...

    Hi Steve,

I understand what you are saying. The help is form specific. So if you open it from the first form you get indeed other help. If you open it from the form opened using that hyperlink, another form is opened and then you get help on that form.

When the form is in edit mode, you can right click on the form and choose the option View details. Then the other form is opened where you get the help on that topic as well.

This is more related to learning navigating the system.

RE: How to easily view help text for a particular field within a form

    Hi Andre,

Thanks for the quick reply.  I'm new to AX by the way.

I have a better example of what I was looking for.

Say I'm in a non edit mode and I click the 'counting group' field which has no value entered. The screen does display a very short description at the bottom of the screen. Hitting F1 key opens the help screen that has nothing to do with the field.

However, if I do enter a value in there and the value becomes a hyper link.  I click that link and it opens the 'Counting groups' form from which I hit the F1 key and it will bring the help that I needed.

So what I'm looking for is when there is no hyper link to click, via hitting the F1 key from the empty field, I would still expect to see the full help screen associated with the 'Counting group'.

I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

In our current ERP system, we can click the question mark at the top of the screen and drag it to any field you want.  It will then pop open the detailed help text for that particular field.

    Hi Steve,

This field is related to the new WMS in AX 2012 R3. What it is what you really want? You only mention that it is not like you expected, but not what you would like to see. Can you be more specific? What do you see now and what would you expect?
