Migrating Marketing portal etc. from sandbox to production

Hello everyone,

I'm assisting a customer through Pro Direct and struggling to understand the expected path for testing in Sandbox and migrating to Production once testing is complete.

I gather that they will first need to purchase a separate Marketing license on Production so they can have Marketing running in parallel on both instances.

It sounds like they can then migrate configuration changes to Marketing using the Configuration Migration tool.

However, the tool doesn't show anything about the Marketing portal, listing the following portals only:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-engagement/portals/migrate-portal-configuration

Is migration of the Marketing portal unsupported at this time, or does it fall under one of those portals?

    Thanks Megan!

The situation is that the customer has a Production instance already running with some kind of Portal (I believe custom).

They also have a Sandbox in which they are just now enabling Marketing, and that asks them to set up somewhere where "portals and landing pages" will be hosted.

I understand that they will need to get another license for Marketing on the Production instance to enable Marketing there.

Will the Configuration Migration tool be sufficient to move all the customized portals/sites they set up in Sandbox over to Production once Marketing is enabled there?

    Hi Dillon,

By migrating, do you mean using the Portal that you are using in the Sandbox and now you want to use it for Production?   Each instance of Marketing requires a Portal to be setup when the Marketing solution is installed - e.g. First Run Experience (FRE) is completed.  If you have configurations e.g. events, marketing pages, etc. in your Sandbox, you can migrate these to the new Production instance.  But if your intention is to use the Sandbox Portal for Production, you would have to do all of the migrations and uninstallation of the Sandbox, reset the Sandbox Portal and then run the FRE to install the Production Marketing instance and then import in the events and marketing pages from the Sandbox.

Let me know if I'm not understanding something.

    Megan
