Export configuration settings from Dynamics AX 2012

Hi,

I'm wondering if there is a way to export all the configuration settings from Dynamics AX 2012.

Currently, I'm manually creating parameter sheet for all the configuration settings by referring to each settings in AX.

e.g)

System parameters (System administration >> Setup >> System parameters)

General - System language = ja, System line number.Increment = 1...

Is this a standard way to write parameter sheet or FRD (Functional requirement document) here?

Or is there a way like extracting it from database at once?

Any references would be appreciated.

Best regards, Mai

    Hi Mai,

There is no way to export all configuration. Some could be done using data import export frame work in AX 2012, however, you need to have DMF entity to export it in 2012 and data entity to import it in D365 that is not always a case.

You can perform data upgrade from 2012 to D365 but it will upgrade whole DB, not only configuration, so if you need only several tables you have to do it manually.

"All configuration" is not possible to even define in such way that it would please everyone. But you can use DIXF to export/import data. In addition to the out of the box entities you can create your own.

    Hi Mai,

If you are trying to export the configuration setups to import in another ax 2012 environment "Yes" you can export the configuration for Dynamics AX 2012 using the Data Import export.

For details please check this blog post https://bit.ly/2vOA94N

However if you just need it for the Functional Design documentation you can just take keep the screenshots and add them to the document. You can also copy text from those screenshots to add to your documents using Microsoft tools.

    Thank you all,

Now I understand there is no way to extract all configuration settings for documentation purpose.

    Best regards, Mai
