Microsoft Dynamics 365 Portals - Data Migration

Portal Experts,

Need to know options to migrate adx related entity data from one crm instance to another. I know till 7.x we have AlmToolkit and WebSiteCopy tools to do the same but on dynamic 365 portals these are unsupported.

I have tried to utilize Configuration Migration tool for the same purpose and my initial observations are it create duplicate records for 'Web Page' entity records.

From 8.x onwards, when we create a web page entity record manually it create two records. One record with ‘Is Root’ value as ‘Yes’ and another record with ‘Is Root’ value as ‘No’. So , when we migrate web page entity data from source crm instance to target, it creates 4 records for each record(2 records coming from source system and 2 gets auto created). Any thoughts on the same to understand this behavior.

Also, is it a good practice to use this tool for adx data migration?

Do let me know if Microsoft has provided a supported way to achieve adx entity records data migration. Please advice.

    Hello,

I have the same reflexion few weeks ago for one on my client. I used the Configuration Migration tool and it worked fine ! :)

To avoid the duplicate reccord, when your create your export schema, you have to tick a specific import option. (Sorry my tool is in french)

    • Click on Tool and Set the Import settings

    • Select the field (GUID) for each entity you want to export/import

    3108.Forum2.png

    • Click on Save

So when you will import your data, it will check if a reccord is existing with this GUID (In my case, the target reccords were the same)

Please let me know if it worked for you

We also use the Configuration Migration tool successfully.

One further thing to Julien's post.... use the disable/deactivate plugins option otherwise you may find you get some duplication issues.

Someone asked about the schema - look at the solution files that microsoft have installed in your CRM for the Portal as these contain all the required entities (and also think about excluding those that contain data rather than meta data e.g. exclude entities such as Invitations etc)

    This was great. it worked.

One thing to note, Any Web Files (which are annotations) won't get migrated this way.

I was somewhat surprised to see that no CSS/JS was moved across.

I am going to look at how to work around that.

Did you got any automated solution or way to migrate webfile with annotiations(CSS/Images etc.) as i am unable to find it ?

You have to select even Annotation entity, when creating schema in Customization Migration Tool for the Web Files to be exported and imported.

    Hi,

In the XRM Toolbox - Portal Records Mover - works a dream.

    Regards
