D365FO BYOD VS Odata for Power BI reporting Purpose

Hi Experts,

We are using D365FO odata as Power BI source for reporting purpose. Some the system report is good and instant, however it is not straightforward enough for us to use.

So we create some Power BI report for scheduling and Production floor, there are two issues we are experience

1. Each time it takes a very long time to refresh the source data from odata.

2. Some of the data entity is not exposed, so we are not able to access. (we are told by our service provider for this one)

So I wonder if we use the BYOD method, does it solve both issues, or we still need someone to help us to expose those data entity?

Thank you!

    Hi Aaron,

    1. BYOD will be faster than Odata calls. But the data might not be current based on when it was last refreshed.

    2. Some of the entities are not public and hence are not accessible by Odata. But you should be able to export them using BYOD.

You should be able to configure the existing entities without the help of a developer.

    Hi Aaron,

BYOD can solve both issues if you have a proper tier for Azure SQL DB (P tier is recommended for PROD).

But also you should take into account the timing requirements. oData can provide data in real-time, BYOD will provide data with delays (depends on your schedule). If you set up a schedule to export data too often you risk overloading your F&O database.
