Can't get email from Dynamics CRM to work (it fails silently)

Dear DynamicsCRM community

I'm posting this here at the suggestion of @MSFTDynamics on Twitter. Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

(This request already made via Online chat, via "Call Me!", but with no reply)

I've got a 1 month trial of Dynamics CRM, but have been unable to get email from it to work. I'm signing in (as Dynamics CRM main admin user) via my Office 365 account (so presumably shouldn't have to enter in my email credentials for Dynamics CRM to be able to send emails from that account, and I'm also using Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online for Outlook.

But if I try and send an email from within Dynamics CRM (in a browser, eg Edge) it fails silently (ie no email is sent, but I get no error message either), and I also get a "Pending email warning: you you email messages more than 24 hours old that haven't been sent. To send these messages, sign in to Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook, or verify with your system administrator that server=side synchronization or the Email Router is set up to send messages for you. For more information about email configuration, see online Help.".

I've looked at the online help, but it is very unclear about what to do when signed in from Office 365, and implies that I shouldn't have to do any special configuration if I'm using CRM for Outlook. This is going to stop us using the product, so please will someone help me to solve this?

Thanks

Not sure how online works but for on premises As stated in your error message you need to setup email router and mailbox with the email address you are using else it will send the email but all emails will be left in pending status. To check if this has been set up when you create an email the From field should default to the email address you want to use and is been set.

    Hope it helps

    Hi Patrick

Welcome you have arrived at the correct place to get your answers,

For Emails to be successfully sent from CRM you will need to configure one of the following email processing options for your

Incoming email messaging options & Outgoing email messaging options

    1) Server Side Synchronisation > offers full email tracking capabilities, can send emails without outlook client running

    2) Email Router > offers full email tracking capabilities, can send emails with outlook client running but requires a dedicated server to install and configure email router

    3) Outlook client > Outlook client requires to be running always when you send an email from crm

so for you scenario the quickest option may be outlook client or server side sync, You can set the default synchronization method applied to all newly created user mailboxes:

1.Go to Settings > Email Configuration

2.Click the Email Configuration Settings > Email tab.

You can set the synchronization method for individual mailboxes:

1.Go to Settings > Email Configuration

    2.Click Mailboxes > select a mailbox.

For information on setting up your email synchronization method, see Integrate your email system with Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

One method of sending emails from CRM is to download and install another software called CRM for Outlook client. When you launch CRM, you should see a button "Get CRM for Outlook". Click on it, install the software. Follow instructions to configure it.

Try these instructions, they look straight forward.

    www.microsoft.com/.../set-up-and-configure-crm-for-outlook-from-office-365.aspx

Then, for each user, you open his Mailbox record and update the Synchronization Method section. You need to set both Incoming email and Outgoing email to "Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook".  Save, press "Test & Enabled Mailbox" button.

Open Outlook.  An email should be delivered from CRM.

We are using CRM 2016 on premise, so can't be of much help otherwise.

    cheers

    Daniela
