Post and Print from Warehouse Shipment : only considers the first custom layout

Hello,

When we post multiple Sales Orders from the Warehouse Shipments page, each customer may have its own Custom Report Layout for the Posted Sales Shipment document. However, Business Central applies only the layout of the first customer in the batch to all subsequent shipments. Microsoft has confirmed this behaviour as a known limitation.

Has anyone implemented a workaround or found a solution that allows the correct Custom Report Layout to be applied to each individual Posted Sales Shipment?

You're correct—this is a known limitation in Business Central: when using Post and Print from the Warehouse Shipment page for multiple shipments, BC only applies the custom report layout of the first customer to all printed documents in that batch.

    Workaround:

The recommended workaround is to disable automatic printing during posting and instead:

    1. Post all shipments in batch without printing.
    2. Then, run a custom report or background job that prints each Posted Sales Shipment individually using the correct custom layout per customer via Report Selections - Sales.

    This requires either:

    • A custom process/report that loops through the posted shipments and prints them one by one, picking up the correct layout, or
    • Using Power Automate or Job Queue to manage shipment printing after posting.

For a permanent fix, you’ll need a customization to override the layout logic during batch posting.

    Hello,

A common workaround is to skip printing during batch posting and instead run a custom Power Automate flow or background AL process that iterates through each Posted Sales Shipment individually after posting, fetching the correct Custom Report Layout per customer using the Report Selection - Sales table, and then generating/printing each document separately. This ensures the correct layout is applied to each shipment based on the customer setup.

Hope this answer will help you!

    Hi,

As per my knowledge, when posting multiple sales orders via the Warehouse Shipments page, Business Central uses the Custom Report Layout of the first customer for all shipments in the batch. Microsoft has confirmed this as a known limitation
