Bulk Edit issue

Posted on by 105

Hi all,

CRM2015 on-prem.

I noticed what appears to be a bug, but I'm curious to see if there's a workaround for this.

There's a Boolean field that's represented as a check box on one of our forms. The default value is 1 (Yes/Checked). When I try bulk editing multiple records, the bulk edit form displays this check box already checked off regardless of the values it has in the records I'm editing. I can be editing 3 records and 2 of them will have the check box checked off while 1 will have it unchecked or I can have 3 records and all of them will have the check box unchecked, but the bulk edit form will always represent it as checked off (i'm guessing because this is the default value for this field). So naturally, when I'm pulling up few records and want to change the  value of this attribute to 1 (checked off), I cannot possibly do it using the bulk edit form since it's already checked off when it loads and it doesn't consider this as a change when I save it. When I un-check the check box, it works as expected and sets the value for all the records I'm editing to 0 (unchecked).

Has anyone else come across this behavior and how did you work around it?

Best regards,

-Tony Suslovich.

    Hi Gary,

I suppose that would work. I need to test how it'll behave if I'm updating multiple fields on the form that have mixed values in this two-option set attribute.

This still seems like a bug to me as I would really like to avoid running bulk edit or a workflow depending on what I need to update.

    Best regards,

    -Tony Suslovich.

You could create an on-demand workflow named "Set Attribute to 1", with no trigger event, that changes the attribute to 1.

Once that's activated, select the records as you would for a bulk edit. Click the Run Workflow button, and select the "Set Attribute to 1" workflow to apply the change to the selected records.

    Hi Neil,

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The attribute is defined as 2-option set. It's just that the visual representation of it on the form is a check box. I can change it to a radio-list or a drop down, but I'm afraid it won't make any difference.

I don't think I can use a workflow either. What event would it fire on? I'm changing multiple unrelated records.

    Best regards,

    -Tony Suslovich.

Hi Tony, as a workaround I would either change the format to an two-value option set or radio button; or use a workflow process to achieve your requirement.
