Hi All,
I am just after some clarification, does anyone know what is likely to happen after July 2021? I guess the online activation we stop working but will telephone activation still work? we still have a large number of customer who are using the system and happy within and in the current climate are not in place to replace the EPOS solution.
Any information you can give would be gratefully received
Thanks
Something to note, if you are using a credit card processing plug in with RMS after the extended support ends, you'll be out of compliance with PCI DSS validations. This can be a costly expense for some (Heartland Payments for example charges $125 / mo for non PCI Compliant merchants) and it may leave you vulnerable to some exploits that can cost you time / money to fix. Staying on RMS after the extended support ends carries a good amount of risk that increases every day. Not something I'd recommend.
I've been working with our clients and partners to migrate users to Retail Management Hero (RMH) using our Paygistix plug in from Payment Logistics. So far so good. Here's the site for Max Pay Global which is used in this type of setup retailrealm.com/.../
Hi Dave,
We have been in discussion with the necessary resources and have been able to verify that when a product goes out of extended support, there is nothing that prevents the user from activating the product after it is no longer in extended support.
As there is nothing in place to shut off the ability to activate, you should be able to activate the product after July 13, 2021 the same way you are activating the product today.
We will also be confirming this after July 13, 2021 to be sure.

For anyone who is not already aware, Mainstream support for Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 ended on July 10, 2016; and extended support ends on 7/13/2021:
support.microsoft.com/.../search
This is less than 2 months from now; and you can continue using RMS after this date but technical support will not be available.
I would recommend checking with your partner in regard to what they may recommend as a replacement system after the extended support end date.

Hi Todd,
Do you know if further decisions have been made around activation after the July date?
As you know many retailers are still using RMS not least since being closed during the pandemic has had a big impact on them. Will it still be possible to activate RMS licenses using the activation server should we need to reinstall any remaining RMS customers’ tills for support purposes? Also, will we still be able to call the licensing call centre should the online activation fail as sometimes happens?
David
Retail Management Hero has really gained some footing in 2021! I know of several RMS users who have moved on to RMH or plan to move to RMS in the next 6-9 months. As for Cloud Retailer, it is a great replacement for RMS as long as you are not selling clothing or using any of the various RMS plug ins from DRS, ComicSuite or Pool Corp.
Thanks Todd!!!

Some of the forums are speculating that even the telephone activation will be shutdown at some point. With the age and instability of RMS on newer versions of windows there will come a point where OS routines it relies on will no longer work. We've seen increasing issues with RMS and Windows 10.
There are a lot of POS choices at varying price points, but only a few that were designed to import customers, sales history, etc. We are a Retail Management Hero partner, which does all of that. Most of their customers were RMS users, so it was designed with the RMS user in mind. RITE Cloud Retailer is a great cloud based solution that is also very compatible, while Retail Management Hero is the most similar to look and feel of RMS/RMSHQ. Other companies can migrate your sales history and data, but will charge quite a lot to do it. Let us know if you would like more info on Retail Management Hero.
Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the reply, all our customers are UK based and really just after some information. I know the online activation is hit and miss but the telephone one normally works. We are looking to do the same with support agreements but its more the licensing of current machines which is where we could do with some information. I tried speaking with Microsoft via normal and premium support channel, but no one seems to know what will happen.
thanks
Hi! That question has been coming up a lot! I have worked with RMS back to the days of QuickSell 2000/QuickSell HQ/QuickSell Commerce via SMS.
We are operating under the assumption that license keys may no longer be activated (we'll have test come July 2021). We do know for sure that you will not be able to purchase RMS/HQ, receive support from Microsoft, or expect any hotfixs to be released. Additionally, many 3rd party plug ins (eg for payment processing, service manager, etc) will have their supporting ending as well.
At RITE, we offering limited RMS/HQ maintenance agreements to RMS/HQ users through 2023 if they are in the US, use standard hardware, and are a type of retailer that we have experience working work like Pet Stores, Gift Shops and Liquor Stores.
if you are curious what other RMS users in the US are doing, I have compiled some basic summary information here: www.pospondering.com/.../what-other-microsoft-rmshq-users-are.html
I'm sure that Todd will share some information as well but I wanted to at least give you some basic information.
