Hi,
We are setting up BC for a new client who only has one physical stock location.
In the system we have made use of stock location mandatory.
Now when the customer tries to use "Calculate Plan" on Requisition Worksheets it does not work as expected. The system does not honor the planning and reorder settings on the items. After searching for why we discovered that if we make location mandatory in the inventory settings, we need to add stock keeping units for every item and on the SKU do the planning and reorder settings. Otherwise the Requisition Worksheets does not work. This makes handling these settings more complex, the customer wants to do that directly on the items.
So my question is - what is best practice for a company that has only one physical stock location - should we recommend them not to use location at all to make things easier? What functionality gets lost in such a simplified setup?
Best regards,
Jim
Many thanks Valentin, that was the exact answer to my question. Highly appreciated.
You can get the planning system to respect the planning parameters on the item cards, you don't have to create stock keeping units if you only have one location. To do that go to the Manufacturing Setup Page, and in the Components at Location field select your Location Code.
Take a look here: learn.microsoft.com/.../production-planning-with-without-locations
I would use a Location Code, if ever down the line you would like to add more than one Location, while possible, its more difficult and takes more work to do so if you've been leaving the Location Code Blank. Another reason is if you would like to start using Bins, you need a location code.
