How to turn on an application area through setup

Hi,

Is there a way to edit which application area are activated through setup?
The list is not editable

We have a client that is using the 1099 reports in Navision 2018. They are based in Canada but also have US companies

In BC, the actions related to 1099 on the vendor list are set as BasicUS so they don't show up for them

Is our only option is to create a page extension and copy all the related actions with ApplicationArea = BasicCA or there is a way to flag BasicUS as Show in User Interface?
This is only 1 example, but there will be others I am sure, so if I could avoid duplicating everything, it would be nice.

As far as I know, there is no way. Some fields/action are common to all versions, but some are not.
When you download NAV/BC, you will select the version, and the localization function is determined at this time. As far as I know, there are still differences in the functions of CA and US.

Of course, if it already exists, you can add it through customization. The following is a simple example.

    Thanks

What you can do is modify the field or action to change the Application Area. Annoying, but it works.

I don't believe you can do the change during runtime, but you can try to create a pageext and use the Modify on the action to update ApplicationArea to All.

Application Areas in Business Central are hardcoded and can't be modified via setup. To enable 1099 actions for Canadian users, you can either extend the page and duplicate the actions with ApplicationArea = BasicCA or use an event subscriber to enable them dynamically. There's no built-in way to flag BasicUS as visible for other regions. Extending the page is usually the best approach.

In Business Central (especially from BC14 and onward), Application Areas are hardcoded and cannot be modified at runtime or from a setup page. The "Application Area Setup" page (8700) simply shows what's enabled based on the experience tier and app metadata—it’s not editable.

Why It's Not Editable:  Application Areas are defined by Microsoft and partners at compile time via the ApplicationAreaproperty on controls, actions, and pages. The system then activates those areas based on tenant settings and experience tier (Essential, Premium). The list in “Application Area Setup” is generated by reading metadata—not meant to be configured by the user.

Your Situation – 1099 Actions with ApplicationArea = BasicUS

Your client is in Canada, but needs 1099 functionality, which is tagged with BasicUS, so it’s invisible to them.

    Recommendation:

    • Use Page Extension.
    • Recreate only the necessary 1099 actions using ApplicationArea = All or BasicCA.
    • Optional: scope their visibility using UserSetup, CompanyInformation, or a Feature Toggle.
