Getting started with development on dynamics AX

Hello friends,

I am about to step into the world of AX, and need some information desperately. I goggled a lot but could not much information on this.

I assume that to get started with this--

1) I need to set up the Dynamics AX 2012 developer SDK on my system. (Where can i download this ? )

2) SDK will be having MorphX IDE, where i can start to code. (Is that right ? )

3) MorphX would be supporting X++ language, so that i can start learning it there. (Is that right ? )

4) In summary, i just want to start practicing or working on Dynamics AX on my system, just like i work on building applications on .Net framework with my Visual studio using C#.

Please help.

    Hi Tariq,

You should be able to learn X++ without having AX installed, however you will need an environment to really practice what you are learning to be good at it...You possibly will also want to test your codes and see how they work in AX for you to be confident in your abilities...

If you cant get a Microsoft partner to work with, ill strongly suggest you take the introduction to AX development course in Microsoft IT Academy...I found them the AX courses there to be quite helpful especially the simulations.

Thanks Hakim for your valuable explanation, i understand it.

On the sideline is there a way to learn X++ language, its constructs their usage etc independently. I mean without having Dynamics AX installed like any other language ?

    Hi Tariq,

Bilal is right to really step into the AX world ideally you will need to be working with a Microsoft dynamics partner where you can get access to dynamics ax trial software's or virtual machines for real hands on...The IDE is an integrated development environment and you will need to install AX to use it.

If you don't work with a Microsoft Dynamics partner, you might want to consider paying for some Dynamics AX courses in Microsoft IT academy...they have got good resource's there that comes with simulated  hands on.

When I started learning AX, I found some of these sites useful... They might be useful to you too.

    Hope this helps?

    Cheers,

    Hakim

    Hi,

Ax IDE is different than C#, you need to install Ax Virtual Machine which need access to partner source.

    Regards,

    Bilal
