Custom message in application-level notification bar

Hello everybody.

We'd like to know if there is any supported way to display a custom message (for example, as a result of a workflow execution) on the global notification bar. CRM uses it to suggest SharePoint integration, Outlook client installation... But I can't find any way to display my own message and make it visible wherever you are in CRM.

If there is not a way, I would appreciate to read about a way to display global notifications.

Thank you very much!

I don't think there is any supported way to do this.

There are form notifications and field notifications but I don't know of any supported way to put a message in the global area.

An alternative would be to display messages in a dashboard and have that at the landing/start page for CRM users.

    Hi Vermin,

I do not think that there is a supported way to customize the out of box notification bar. Modifications to any .aspx, .css, .htm, .js, .xml, .jpg, or .gif files or the addition of files in the wwwroot directories of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM application, Microsoft Dynamics CRM tools, or Microsoft Dynamics CRM files located at Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics CRM is documented as unsupported. The notification bar is not accessible to developers by ribbon/form/sitemap customizations.

I can think of  a custom entity "Notifications" or an HTML web resource with bold formatting  being displayed in the CRM dashboards so all users will see it when they log into CRM.

You could insert web resources that display notifications into forms where your users spend most of their time, you can get your messages to users while regular work is going on.

I would also be quite interested to see if there is any way to achieve a persistent custom notification in CRM through supported means.

As stated by Ben and Alen - there is no way of adding your own messages to this area. You could however show a popup message by using an Enable Rule on an Application Ribbon Command.

    Hello again and thank you!

Our requirement was to show a notification to a user (no matter wherever he is in CRM at that moment) when X hours have passed since a new case assigned to him came into CRM without having been seen.

Still there is no OOB or supported feature to do similar notification like Yellow banner below Global navigation bar.

Unfortunately Announcements also deprecated. MS didn’t provide any AdRotator kinda functionality yet.

We can do either some dashboard with web resource to announce/notify users. Or alert using Application ribbon js command.

In Unified Interface, we have option to provide welcome page (html web resource) when we spin up app. May be that’s the roadmap of MS.
