Business Portal Requisition Interface

Posted on by 1,930

I am evaluting Business Portal but am not familiar with the interface. I do remember when entry a Journal Entry from Business portal, it basically used a terminal server connection and opened the GP JE entry window. My question is what is the interface for creating requisitions from Business Portal. Does it have a web based interface or does it open the req window in GP from terminal services.

 thanks

    Sunil,

Business Portal Requisition Management is a web application.  It is available for GP 2010 on SharePoint 2007(x86) and 2010 (x64).

    Thanks

    Rob

    Re: Business Portal Requisition Interface

    Hi Sunil,

The Requisition Management module in BP is a independant web based application that uses the POP module from GP to interact with GP. When properly setup, it allows you to retrieve informations about the Vendors, Items and G/L accounts from GP. Also the Account Level Security (ALS) must preferably be setup on the GP side if you don't want user creating PO's on G/L's that they are not allowed to. The BP RM is compatible with the PO Enhancement option in GP (Budget Commitment and allocation of budget limits). However, the RM module has some drawbacks : it's for example not compatible with the Project Accounting in GP. That means you'll not be able to create requisitions against Projects or Contracts in GP. This can only be changed once the Requisition is pushed into GP and the PO has been created.

The other flaw I discovered the hard way is that even when the ALS is enabled, users can still punch in the G/L account number if they know a valid one and despite that it does not show in the list they get from GP... RM doesn't validate the rights to use a given G/L # at the time the requisition is submited to the next level of approval.

Other than this, just refer to what Francisco mentionned about the platform compatibility (32 vs. 64 bits) in the Microsoft KB's.

You are right, for Journal Entries, Invoices, Payment and other transactions, it is redirecting you to the terminal services web client and opens Dynamics GP.

However, Requisitions, Sales Orders and time sheets are not, business portal has special modules to cover those subjects and finally integrates the results to the application.

    Re: Business Portal Requisition Interface

Actually I am trying to find out how is the user interface. I had BP installed on my laptop a few years ago and I remeber for JE's, Vendors, etc. The business portal opened the GP application through terminal services. Essentially the interface was the same of GP.

With Timesheets the interface is Web based which is much more user friendly then the GP interface. Therefore I would like to know if the Reqs have thier "own" user friendly interface or does it just open the GP Purchasing Requisition window (which is really not very user friendly).

    thanks

by the way I must add that BP 5.1 is only available in a 64bit flavor, no 32 bit, just for you to take that into account

    Hello Sunil

Business portal is based on sharepoint technologies and utilizes Dynamics GP web services to integrate data into Dynamics GP there is a Business Portal Integration Document for version 4

    at this location

    www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

and if you go to Developing for Dynamics Blog there is a post if not mistaken from Chris Roehrich as well.

    Have a great day
