How to handle SDI taxes for California in Dynamics GP 2010 payroll

This tax needs to show up on the employees W-2 statement.  It is a percentage based deduction for the state of CA only, and is tied to specific employees.

Currently I have this setup as a deduction within the system in order to get it on the W-2, but was wondering if anyone had a better way of handling this unique tax.

Were you able to get California State Disability Insurance (SDI) setup correctly in Dynamics GP? We are trying to setup SDI as a local tax in payroll for GP 2010 but are having troubles calculating the withholding from taxable wages instead of gross wages.

Any advice on how to setup SDI would be greatly appreciated.

We successfully setup SDI in Dynamics GP as a local tax. Here is a screenshot of how we it up:

After setting up the local tax we applied it at the Employee Class level and subjected each paycode to it. One thing we got tripped up on is updating the benefit and deductions to account for local tax when activity already exists for these codes. The easiest way to update these benefit/deduction enrollments to account for local tax is to do it via SQL. For example, to shelter our health insurance deduction from local tax we used the following sql:

    UPDATE UPR00500

    SET SFRLCLTX = 1

WHERE DEDUCTON LIKE 'I%' AND INACTIVE = 0

I hope this info helps other GP users who process payroll for California employees.

thanks for your post.. Our question is how does this populate on W2 - when it is expected that the state mandated w/h for disability should be on Box 14 and not with the local taxes.
