Order Up To Level

We are on GP2010 using the PO Generator and have our items Replenishment Level set to Order Point Quantity so the Order Up To Level does not come into play.  My question is can someone explain to me what the difference is between the Order Point Quantity and the Order Up To Level.  Most information I have found does a poor job of explaining and mostly says these fields are essentially the same thing.

Any help is much appreciated.

Order Point Qty is the stocking level at which you'll receive a recommendation to re-order if the quantity on hand drops to Order Point Qty or lower.

Order Up To Level is the maximum you want to have on hand.  Let's say your OPQ is 100 your OUTL is 150 and your Minimum Order Quantity for that item is 75 units.

Your on hand drops to 90.  GP should recommend an order of 60 units because of the OUTL constraint.

OPQ = Minimum desired On Hand

OUTL = Maximum desired On Hand

Wouldn't GP recommend an order of 75 because that is mandated as the Minimum Order Quantity?  This is where I get caught in a circle because I agree it should only recommend 60.

Do I need to set my item Replenishment Level to be Order Up To Level?  Maybe this is where I am going wrong by having our items Replenishment Level set to Order Point Qty.

Yep yep.  If your Replen Level is set to Order Point, PO Generator will ignore the Order Up To Level.

Katie one thing to keep in mind here is that the UP TO POINT is the Max it will order and if you have a Min Order Level (which is a Vendor side rule) you should always keep enough gap between the Order Point and the Order Up To Level

In Franks case above, in some configuration that order might not get placed at all.  Some rules override others.

So if min order qty is 100 don't set the Reorder point at 100 and the Order Up to at 150

The system will have a hard time getting that order placed, until such time as you hit less than 50 on hand - then it is panic time.

    Hope this helps
