I want to serialize each item in a kit. Say you have a kit with two items. I want to be able to track the serial number on each of the items in the kit. So if my Kit contains part A and part B. I need to track the serial number for Part A as well as the serial number for Part B. We are purchasing this way as well as selling this way. Could someone walk me how this can be accomplished?
Thank you.
Jennifer,
Thank you. I guess I need to clarify a bit further. Part A and Part B are both set up in inventory as serial items (purchased parts). The Kit is also set up (not identified as a kit at this point) and it is not serialized. The Kit is being purchased from the vendor and they will technically ship the two parts (A & B) as one item. I need to be able to keep track of the serial numbers on Part A & B. I have tried doing a sales order for the "Kit" at a given price and added Part A and Part B as additional line items for zero price. I then purchase the "Kit" from the vendor off the Sales Order. When the parts are received, I receive in the "Kit" and add in the line items for Part A and B so that I can capture the serial numbers. I have run into a situation where the A and B parts show on the invoice, but the "Kit" doesn't even though it is included in the invoice total. It shows that the item was shipped, but won't show on the invoice. I am trying to locate any type of work around.
To recap: the "kit" is two serialized parts that need to be ordered on a sales order, ordered on a purchase order and appear on the invoice with the serial number on the A and B parts.
Please let me know if you have any questions or have any suggestions.
Thank you,
Deb
Deb,
You would create Part A and Part B in the Inventory Items screen - setting the Lot/Serial Tracking = Serial Numbered. Then you can click Lot/Serial Setup to set those values specific to your business processing. The Kit item will also need to be setup in Inventory Items - you didn't mention if you need that to be serial tracked as well, but, if so, be sure to set that when you create the item. You'll then create the kit in the Kits screen - by entering the Kit item and related components (Part A and Part B) and how many of each it takes to make 1 kit. Lastly, you'll need to get quantity on hand of each component, then you can build your kits using the IN Kit Assembly screen. When the Kit Assembly batch is released - it will put quantity/cost of the kit into inventory and remove quantity/cost of the components from inventory - each will have a serial number assigned that you'll be able to drill down to in transaction history.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
