CSW - Assign a tab to an entity instructions

Hi All,

Has anyone stumbled across a fool proof guide in how to assign an entity to a tab which then gets linked to a session? I think I have almost got it but struggling with what values to assign to the ID and value fields of the application tabs? Where would I know what the correct values are and the exact value to assign?
