Can an item with different Location codes be put on the same order GP 2010

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We have acquired another warehouse (Lyell WH) for product in addition to our main one (Central).  My question is can I place an item that has QTY available at the Lyell WH and not Central along with an Item that has QTY available at Central and not the Lyell WH, I did try it and it doesn’t seem to work , am I going to have to create multiple orders for each warehouse?

Yes, you have the correct procedure for allocation

    Richard,

I have tested the method of changing each line item to the correct site which seems to work now, I must have been doing something wrong the first time I tested it., however when the item  site location is changed on an order from the default site (Central) to the (Lyell WH) site the yellow triangle pops up for the remote site because the items are not allocated, I have instructed the user to go ahead and allocate the available QTY for there order otherwise if it waits to get to the warehouse for fulfillment someone else may snatch it. Would that be the proper procedure. Also you mentioned having to print a picking ticket for each site,  we have not done that and all seams to work. Our sales staff create the orders, which then accounting clears document holds, and the picking ticket/order is sent to the warehouse for fulfillment . BTW thanks to all for your suggestions.

BTW, you might need to implement Fulfillment Orders to print separate pick tickets per site or use a Crystal or SSRS report to generate the pick ticket

    Yes.

During Order Entry (or when editing the order) select the line item(s) that need to ship from the second ware house (one at a time) and expand the line item data.  You will see a site field that specifies the site from which the item will ship.  This can be changed.

When printing picking tickets for the order, two different picking tickets need to be printed, one for each site.

When fulfilling the order you either need to have both shipped picking tickets or perform two separate fulfillments.  If you do two separate fulfillments, you need to transfer the first to an invoice and post before performing the second fulfillment.

Version 2013 will provide a component to combine the two invoices.  You can check out how to use this new feature in our Version 2013 Unleashed book at www.accoladepublications.com

    Hello Tim,

For this you would need a 3rd party module or customization as GP only allows you to print a separate picking ticket per site as you saw. To narrow down the printing to print a certain site only would require a customization or a 3rd party product.

I am including a website where you can look for 3rd party products that may have this functionality. You could also engage your Microsoft Partner to see if they are able to create a customization to do this. if they are not able to then they can also engage our Partner Technical team to help with the customization as a billable advisory service:

    Fred,

Bryan is correct in his description of Dynamics GP functionality.  You can have a different sites for each line on an order.  The issue that I'm trying to solve here is that Dynamics GP will allow you to print separate Pick and Pack documents by Site but does not allow you to limit/filter for which sites you are printing.  Consider a company with two warehouses (A and B) where orders are entered at both locations.  A worker at Site A prints Pick and Pack documents with the separate site option enabled.  That worker will get Pick and Pack for both site A and B.  The operation would have to be repeated at site B (everything printed twice).  We are looking for something that automatically prints pick docs to the appropriate warehouse.  We think we're looking at some sort of customized solution to overcome this.  I would be interested to hear from anyone else who has an elegant solution to this.

    Hi Fred,

Yes, you can set a default location for the entire order document, but you also have the ability to change each line to separate location code.

    Thanks,

    Bryan
