Need help with workflow conditions

I have a workflow I want to build that will send an email reminder to the owner of an Opportunity 3 months prior to the Opportunity Estimated Close Date.  I only want to do this for Opps. that are still open at that time.  Can someone help me with the conditions I should build?  I want to avoid having lots of workflows in the "Waiting" status if they do not need to be.

Thanks

you have to use wait condition to send remainder email.check below image that shows how to add wait condition to wait to execute workflow before 3 months of est. close date

    Hi,

"I want to avoid having lots of workflows in the "Waiting" status if they do not need to be" - Apart from workflows you can go for window service which will run on specified time interval and will daily check how many opportunities with above condition will send them email.

    Thanks

The only resources that a waiting workflow consumes is in the database so don't worry about performance of waiting workflows. If you run a second workflow after the wait you don't run into version issues either. Alternatively you could use the codeplex solution as a starting point -workflowautomation.codeplex.com

I am working on similar workflow but I am unable to hit the condition where a license is 3 months before Expiration Date, any ideas why? i.e. re today's 7/1/2015 and Expiration Date on 10/1/2015 don't trigger the condition. Thanks in advance.
