GP running slow for single user

Hi,

We have a user who is experiencing extreme slowness for any task attempted while using Great Plains. Once they attempt to sign in, it will take about 8 minutes for it to do so. The window will show as a blank white screen, with nothing displayed until it eventually loads. The same can be said when attempting to navigate to any other part of the program that requires the window to reload.

Other users do not have this issue at all, and are all configured similarly. We had already created a new account for the user in question, as this had happened to them before. It worked fine up until recently, when it began having the slowness issues again. We suspect it may be a setting that the user is unknowingly applying that is causing this. We had compared the profiles of their old account, when it began running slow, to the new one we created and everything appeared to be configured the same. When we attempt to sign in as this user on a different computer that runs fine, the slowness issue still occurs.

One solution that we found for related issues was to go to User Preferences --> AutoComplete --> Remove Entries (clear cache) for the user, but this did not seem to improve the performance.

Is it possible to set a user account back to the default settings? Did not seem to find anything regarding this when searching other posts/articles. Or is there anything else we could try to help with this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Joe

I would start by looking at what is on this person's GP home page. Try disabling the home page completely and then add one item after another until you find the task that is causing the slowdown.

can you try replacing the GP root folder with the one copied from a user where GP is working fine.

    Hi Richard,

We attempted to disable all items on this user's home page, but that did not seem to make any difference in how long it takes for the user to sign-in/process tasks. Thank you for this suggestion! We had not thought of trying this before.

    Hi Tom,

Since this is occurring when the user who is having this issue attempts to sign into GP on another workstation where GP is working fine, we do not believe the issue lies in one of the GP folders, but within the user's profile itself. Thank you!

When a correct speed user logs in via the slow users machine what happens?  And that should be login with fast user network account and then launch GP.  Same in reverse also.

I've seen in the distant past... maybe once or twice... situations where IT had mapped user share drives (their temps) to old machines or domains such that the home page would cache a couple thousand miles away and it would react as what you have.

Mostly interested in what happens with above test though.

Have you tried deleting all files in the temp folder on the offending computer? Is the home page completely disabled now? Are both computers of similar configuration?

Ok. Now what I will check is

    1. Ask another user to login to the same machine

    2. Check the computer configurations and delete the temp files.

    3. Check whether any network folders are associated with that user .

    4. Remove the outlook, connect from the user's homepage.

    Hi Tim,

When a correct speed user logs in via the slow users machine, it logs in without any issues. Everything comes up as you would expect, but as soon as we try the slow user's account again, it takes 8-10 minutes to even log in. Thank you for your reply!

    Hi Richard,

We attempted to try what you suggested above, and that did not seem to have any effect. We also had a user who has no issues logging in attempt to login via the slow users machine, and they signed in without any issues. But as soon as we try the slow user's account again, it continues to take 8-10 minutes to login. Thank you for your assistance on this!

    Hi Tom,

When another user who has no issue logging in attempts to do so on the slow user's machine, it logs in without any issues. Once we attempt to sign in under the slow user's account again, however it slows right back down to 8-10 minutes to even sign-in. We also attempted the other suggestions you gave, and that did not seem to improve the login time. Thank you!
