Changed account structures: New and old transactions still trying to reference the old structures

Posted on by

We recently made a change to the account structures set in AX (2012 R2). After assigning new account structures to the entity ledger and removing the old structures (not deleted - just removed from the entity), new AR transactions entered into AX are still trying to reference the old structures, based on the error log that was appearing when attempting to post. This happens with reversals and new customer payment journals. However, a tiny handful of customer payments do get successfully posted, though I haven't found a common thread.

Steps already tried (and failed):

1. Replacing the customer posting profile

2. Making the old structures inactive (by keeping them in draft mode)

3. Removing the new structure from the company ledger and adding the new structure back

Has anyone else experienced this problem and successfully worked past it? If so, please share the benefit of your experience.

    Hi,

If you change the active account structures, main accounts using new combinations, will need to have new references. Due to the data model the information on the journal line refers to a set of data referring to the old inactive structure. So you need to re-enter the data.

If you used journal lines with e.g. a customer or main accounts which were not affected by another structure, these lines can still be posted.

Thanks Andre. Maybe I'm not clear on what data you are referring to for reentry, but the journals in question were completely removed and reentered into AX after the structure change with no change in the results. I realized I forgot to enter that important detail in the original post.

One alternative approach we tried (that is showing promising results) is reverting back to the old account structures.

    Hi,

I think I misread something indeed. Do you have some default dimensions filled on (some of) the customers? These might refer to old structures as the dimensions being displayed are derived from active account structures.

If this is not the case, can you post the exact error message? Probably with a print screen?

    Hi Andre,

It is indeed the case where there are dimensions attached to the customer records. In a response from Microsoft, they mentioned that in R2 "there was a design change that affected how we attach the account structures. They used to be assigned to the chart of accounts, and the new design attaches them to the ledger. There was some caching code that was missed, and can cause this error after a change in account structure."

There are two hotfixes they recommend (KB 2833433 and KB 2878026) which should take care of the issue.

Thank you for your kind response.

It turns out the issue was related to an issue with AX. It's now been resolved with Hotfix KB 3013862.

Hello,  is there any way that the lines captured previously point to the new structure without re-enter data? my problem it is only in purchase order lines but are many lines.
