Business Portal 5.1 / Internet Explorer 11 script errors

Posted on by 372

Doing some proactive testing and encountered issues with certain areas where users are unable to utilize functionality of the application.

> Modify Employee Profile

> Modify W4

> Submitting Time

> Paperless paycheck info won't display

> Unable to add or modify users

> SSRS reports don't render correctly

Many, many more issues.

Referenced an article about IE 10 and adding to Compatibility but not finding the option in IE 11.  Tried several different combinations of settings under "Internet Options" but with no success.  This is a deal breaker since IE 10 was forced down on Windows 7 workstations and can only expect the same as IE 11 is rolled out in the future.

Posting so some MSFT folks can log the bugs and work with the IE team in bldg 1 to get this resolved for their valued customers :-)

    Hi Murphy,

Please change the browser mode to lower version by pressing F12, to check the display and functionality of BP.

My apologies for not following up; wear many hats :-) and mailbox receives many notifications.

The issue is best described as not being able to render correctly (it just displayed garbage) non legible.  Version was BP 5.1 SP3 x64 running on Win Server 08 R2 and SharePoint 2010 foundation.

We are unable to repeat the error as first mentioned and have deployed at four different sites with around 250 employees using.  One action we took at the beginning was to use compatibly mode.  From IE browser > Tools > Compatibility View Settings > Added the site and checked both options.  Believe that was set in Group Policy.  So, out of 250 users viewing in different versions of IE; we have heard of no complaints.   FYI for folks reading this; this is a MS product not Apple and good luck with iPads. We have gone Surface tablets to avoid such scenarios since we use all MS products.  When first reported, there were several folks who were getting the error but seems to have gone away..... <shrug>

I do not mind reporting bugs and it benefits us as well but do we need to contact MS Support and charged $250.  Been there before with another issue.

    Hi Kristie,

We didn't doing any testing of BP 5.0 on IE11. The lowest version of BP that was tested with it was BP 5.1 SP3. The only issues we saw there were some script errors on certain pages and some alignment issues with some pages. What IE11 issues are you seeing?

    Thanks,

    Ryan

RE: Business Portal 5.1 / Internet Explorer 11 script errors

I'm curious about IE 11 and Business Portal 5.0 and how to make BP work in the IE 11 version.  Should we upgrade to BP5.1 so users using IE 11 can interact with the application?  I've only recently been able to get my users to use BP5.0 with IE 9 and IE 10...and now I'm having to deal with IE 11 related issues.  Any guidance is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Kristie

We have done several app compat test passes of BP 5.1 and BP 6.0 on IE11. Our testing covers most of what you list above and more. All of the above along with the other tests that we do all passed just fine (some minor alignment issues were all we found). What version of BP 5.1 are you using? Is it R2 or SP3? Because all of our testing is done on either BP5.1 R2 or SP3.

Could you please provide some further detail around the issues that you are seeing? Also, you may want to log a bug with our support team that mentions all those details. I know that in the past we have had customers that found issues with BP that worked in our internal testing and it was traced back to meta tag settings for certain pages. Our support team was able to pinpoint which ones and get solutions for them.

    Thanks. Ryan
