FRx - Variance column vs row calculation

Posted on by 180

In our Income Statement, the totals in the Variance column are correct for all rows except for two:  Income(Loss) and Income(Expense).  Since the calculation is set up by the column, how can I fix only the two rows since they should calc like all the others?

You are correct - it was set backwards.  Thank you for your help!

In the Variance column in the Column Layout, is there an "XCR" on the Print Control line?  If so, then you should simply go to the Row Format, and put a "C" in the Normal Balance column for the 2 lines that are incorrect.

If the XCR is in the Variance column in the Column Layout, this means that the variance being computed is probably "Favorable vs Unfavorable", rather than a straight numeric variance.

In order to answer this question correctly it would be helpful to see the row definitions for these two lines and the column definition.  I am assuming (sometimes dangerous) that these lines are total lines and that your column definition is subtracting one column from the other.  You might want to pull up the catalog for this report, go to the report options tab and then the advanced tab and see which way the calculation priority is set.  you may have this backwards.
