Data Files location

We have a client using this software and they have multiple locations of these data files. Which makes it a problem to figure out which ones are in being used, are all, ect.

My question is when a user logs in to GP, is there a way through the GP software to see the location of the data files in use? I ask this becuase they had a dictionary issue and when i went to edit the file i was told to, there was 4 of them. Now this place does have multiple compaines in that software ( 5, i think) could that be why?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

GP uses MS SQL as its database. As such, the data files are controlled by SQL. I highly doubt it is the SQL datafiles that are in different locations. Are you referring to the reports and forms dictionaries? Look for a file called DYNAMICS.SET on each computer. This file will contain the locations of these files. It is preferred to have only one copy of these files and to locate them in a shared network folder.

By the way, if you are in GP, you can go to Tools->Setup->System-Edit Lauch File and then highlight MS Dynamics GP and it will tell you the same thing.

I'm going to try that. But the setup is users connect in to a server a run GP 2010. When i go to look for the DYNAMICS.SET file, i found 4 different versions in 4 different places. Just trying to figure out if those are user specific or copies.

Its highly possible that they moved the installation from one server to another and never cleaned up after themselves.

Thanks for your response, im still learning this program and i appreciate any and all help.
