Manufacturing BOM issue to and from sites

Hi, I have a doubt, we have several BOMs with some subassemblies and raw material, we have mainly two sites one for finished product (FG) and one for raw material (RM), my question is on the raw material should we use:

Issue from: RM

Issue to: FG

or

Issue from: RM

Issue to: RM?

All raw material goes into a phanton subassembly and our finished product is made from such subbassemblies.

BTW....we have a good set of books on using GP manufacturing.  You might want to check them out at www.accoladepublications.com

Even without an MO, if you pull inventory components and do not report the pull (like with a component transaction), the shelf will be different from the computer count.  IF your production time is longer than a few hours, you need to release the MO and issue components.

OK, now I get it, thanks again, and no, we don't open any MO until we are ready to receive it.

You just don't know that you use WIP....when you back flushing, two sets of transactions are recorded.  Components are first issued to WIP, then in the second transaction WIP is relieved to finished goods.

If your production time is longer than a day or two, I strongly recommend issuing components to WIP.  If you open an MO on Monday and pull components but do not perform the MO Receipt (and back flush) until Wednesday, your shelf inventory is wrong on Tuesday.  If you need to do a physical count on Tuesday......

Thanks Richard, so the field issue to is used on WIP? we don't use WIP we use Backflush, we are looking into implementing WIP.

RE: Manufacturing BOM issue to and from sites

These two fields are used to override the Issue to and Issue From sites on the Manufacturing Order.  When components are issued, the system looks at the entries in the copy of the BOM attached to the MO.  If there is an issue from there, it pulls product from that site.  Otherwise, it uses the issue from on the MO header.

When the components are issued, they are typically issued to WIP and not to a site.  The Issue To on the BOM suggests that floor stocked items should be issued to a specific work center site, not to a finished goods site.

    Hope this helps.

I typically suggest that firms do NOT use the Issue to/Issue From on the BOM as it limits them at the time the MO is created.  Use the Issue From on the MO to specify where raw materials should be pulled from and the To site on the MO to specify where finished goods should be received to.  Using the fields in the BOM will override the issue from for that specific component only.
