Upgrading Forms and Reports to GP 18.3.1200 from GP 18.3.1137

I had done a fresh installation of GP 18.3.1137 last month. It created only a C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP folder. This morning I applied the GP 18.3.1200 year-end batch. Much to my surprise when I went to upgrade forms and reports there was no folder created containing the 18.3.1137 DYNAMICS.DIC.   Did this get overlooked in this service pack? Was it expecting to find a GP 2018 folder and when it was not there it did nothing?

I haven't heard of this, but I'd have to test to specifically look for it to say for sure, which I'll look to do maybe today.

Myself, I usually recommend a separate install of GP at the new version, just in case something happens, you have the original to go back to. Plus, when updating dictionary files, greater chance something gets corrupted, compared to a new install at the updated version. This is just my opinion, no evidence it is better than the other option.

Same as with modified forms and reports, always have a package file containing them, on top of backups of the dictionary files.

We'll update as soon as we find something more.

    Thanks

Derek, I was just surprised not to see the backup folder created with the DYNAMICS.DIC file in it. I simply copied the file manually and the update continued as it should.

    Richard,

I just performed an upgrade for the YE-update on 18.3.1200 from an 18.0.0496.. Everything went into the exsiting folder and I had no issues in Upgrading the FORMS & REPORTS dictionaries from the old version..

I always take a full ZIP archive copy of the program folder before I start, as suggested by Derek, and also a copy of the custom DIC files (often times on a shared location).  I some cases, when upgrading from an older major version, I also do a full .package export from all the customizations, just in case the upgrade won't work.

PS: I also updated my TWO demo environment from .1137 to .1200 last week, but I don't recall if I had any  custom REPORTS to upgrade. I'll check it out and report back.

    Richard,

I double-checked and did actually had a few custom reports that I had not upgraded.

I re-ran the GP Utilities and had no errors at all when it came to upgrade the REPORTS.DIC file.

You may want to check the Update1831200_Microsoft_Dynamics_GP.log file that is in the Data sub-folder to see what happened during the process.
