Integration w/ Microsoft Project Server and GP 2010

Posted on by 1,755

Are there any out of the box integration features w/ Project Server 2010 and GP 2010? We would like to integrate project costs from Microsoft Project to GP (and also utilize GP customers and employees in Project). I have reviewed the GP Project Accounting White Paper and it mentions that Microsoft Project templates, project plans, and resources are accessible via Business Portal.

I am looking for more resources that describe how GP 2010 integrates w/ Project Server 2010.  Any details you could provide about this integration would be very helpful. Thanks.

May be, you can try using eOne's smart connect and develop something to push the data. That's logical thought comes to my mind in absence of anything available out of box

Try www.Journyx.com is does it all, multiple approvers, internationalized, integrates with Project and Dynamics GP.  They have an out of the box Dynamics GP integration tool, that I am developing, that will do standard integration and is very configurable and a professional services team that will make whatever work for your organization.  Been in the Time, Expense and project tracking game for 17yrs.  They KNOW what they are doing ;)  Great Company!!!

This is obviously very late, but in case anyone is still interested, check out:

Has anyone found a good way to integrate MS Project Server and Dynamics ? The Olympic option sounds more “complex” then I wanted.  We have looked at a Wensofts solution, but were hoping for a little tighter integration.

                   Below are my goals:

                       • Create base project plan based on info in Dynamics (Customer, time, dates, Project manager, title)

                       • Be able to track employee utilization, double books, and schedule (Features in MS Project Server 2007 or newer)

                       • Have a single data entry point that updates both (Hours worked, hours remaining)

We did look at both of those systems when we were implementing. Olympic did not have a multi-currency capability at the time and I do not know if it has now - that was 1.5 years ago. We have a need to handle projects in USD, CAD, GBP & Euro and potentially other currencies.

The Jovaco product was extemely nice and had all of the features we were looking for, and the price tag to with it. Just the project management component would have cost $125k and then the cost of GP on top of that and any integrations to our Corporate mandated Primavera product. Our project managers were already using MS Project to draft their inital project plan and work breakdown structure. They would provide the project file to our program control group (PCG) in finance who would then enter it into Primavera that would then integrate with GP project accounting, creating the contract, projects and cost categories. The labour then integrates into GP from our Tenrox timekeeping system through PDK and then monthly we send all actuals back to Primavera via integration and the PCG reports back to the project managers on the status of their project. Not the best system, however it works. I was hoping to see some more seemless integration between GP and MS project to allow the project management team to get more timely updates on their projects and to be able to better forecast their costs without running over budget - has happened on a couple months.

I think that Jovaco Project Mangement may have this.  Also, check out Olympic Project Management.

Re: Integration w/ Microsoft Project Server and GP 2010

    Hello Greg,

I have been looking for the same information, with no luck. The limited information that I can find is that SL has some integration points with Project, however nothing for GP. My company is using GP 10.0 Project Accounting. Our partner created a custom integration between Oracles Primavera Project Management and a timesheet platform called Tenrox going through PDK. The BP Time and Expense was not robust enough for our organization - even the 2010 version is very weak We require multiple approvers for time and tax support for expenses that BP T&E does not have. We would like to roll-out a Project Server and Project client system for our project group - Primavera is limited to Finance - however we cannot find any oob integration points for project from Microsoft. After attending Convergence this year, it appears that Project Accounting and MS Project are of little interest to Microsoft to support or develop. If you can find some information, please post a link and I will do the same.

     Thanks.
