SQL Server Standard 2014 edition backup problems from within rms

Good day

I have an SQL Server Standard 2014 edition running on a server 2012 r2 box, when i try to backup rms from within the manager or administrator i am getting an error message "Backup Failed for server (sqlserver name)" but the backup runes fine from within the sql management studio.

I have the correct part to the backup location configured within the sql management studio but the error occurs no matter where i point the backup too.

Your help will be appreciated

    Hi Shannon,

    I will try 2 things.

    1. Try to create a folder in C: drive. For example C:\DB Backups. Then try to save your backup in there.
    2. If that doesn't work then try to install 2005 backward compatibility (SQLServer2005_BC.msi for 32 bit and SQLServer2005_BC_x64.msi for 64 bit). Then try to do the step 1 again.

I hope and wish Step 1 solves your problem.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have tried option one already and got the same error!

And option 2 has already been installed as we would not have been able to get a connection to the db without it, does it need to be installed on the sql server as well?

    Hi Shannon,

That sounds strange. Perhaps you want to check the windows permission? I understand studio can back up without any issues. I also hope you tried the option "Run as administrator" to open the store operations administrator.  Sorry, I cant think of anything else.

    Mabuhay!

Hi Shannon, have you tried installing Backward Compatibility?  What we experience before was we are using SQL 2000 and when we upgraded it to SQL Standard 2008 R2 we cant connect on studio to backup so we install BC and now we can backup database.

One thing we cant do over the higher version of SQL (2012) is that we cant export database store which we need in deploying our stores.

    Thanks,

    Chris
