Claification needed on quantity type and site bins

Posted on by 215

We're using making use of the site bins for "Purchase Returns" (QC) and "Sales Returns" (RGA). Is the only way to keep items in these bins from being allocated to sales orders to change their quantity type to something other than "On Hand"?

What happens functionally with the bin you define for "Sales Order Fulfillment"? The bin we're using (DOCK) is accumulating unallocated items, and we're not sure how.
If a Bin is not assigned at the Item-Site level, the default Bin assigned at the site level would be used instead when the sales orders are fulfilled.
We use random bins, so we don't have them assigned at the Item-Site level, just the site level. What would be the effect of not having one defined at the site level as well? I'm wondering if some sort of automatic fulfillment is happening causing negative quantities of items in our site sales order fulfillment bin (DOCK). Thank you for your help.

When You assign a Bin for Sales Order Fulfillment for an Item-Site combination, that Bin will be used whenever Sales orders are fulfilled. If a Bin is not assigned at the Item-Site level, the default Bin assigned at the site level would be used instead when the sales orders are fulfilled.

We are also trying to figure out how to use the quantity types other than On-Hand to segregate inventory based on it's release status. I am use to having a status field that is attached to all inventory of a given lot of a part in a locations. I am having trouble inderstanding the relationship of the inventory to the status' othert than on-hand. There is no way of limiting what status can be in a bin, is there? I am interested to see if anyone jumps in to help you.
