CRM 2016 SP1 Web API stops working!

This afternoon we had the production CRM throw an error anytime the Web API was called. Simply typing .../api/data/v8.1/accounts in the browser results in the error below. Given that this web service is destined to replace SOAP and OData2.0 endpoints I am concerned as to what might cause this. CRM continued to serve pages and OData2.0 endpoint seemed OK. Required server reboot to fix. Anyone have an idea?
