Hi everyone! We are working on setting up a system for regularly contacting various people located on different marketing lists. There was a request to track additions and removals from the lists and I was wondering if this was possible.
Basically, spit out a report that says - last month these people were added to XYZ marketing list and these people were removed from that list. Any help or other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Hello,
For regular marketing lists there is not default mechanic that may would track the addition or removal of members in all cases. The reason is simply that for mass member operations such tracking for be prohibiting for performance reasons. A marketing lists is a process thin storage mechanic for members of respective typs.
And it had been attempted and requested before and auditing had been considered by the community for this purpose. But the concept has limitations in terms of reporting capabilities and may not work in mass operations properly.
The scenarios in which such membership reporting is essential would be subscription management. This calls for a more thorough implementation
In the Product Dynamics 365 for Marketing we have developed a end to end subscription solution that include landing pages, email confirmation options and subscription centers that your audience can use to manage subscription. This is accompanied by the generation of interaction records for subscription and un-subscription through this mechanic. While static marketing lists are still used for the underlying storage for the subscribers - and which might change in the future - the lists object itself is not the instance that tracks the subscription changes - but it is the surrounding subscription process. The generated subscription interactions are used to calculate insights, KPIs and can used in segmentation and customer journey automation to repspond to you subscribers for example with sending a welcome message.

Static marketing lists are what was being contemplated currently. If there was another way that you recommend, I'd be open.
Hello,
This is a typical subscription tracking scenario. Are you then referring to static marketing lists in the form of subscription lists?
If so, are you using generic static marketing lists or the subscription lists mechanic with Dynamics 365 for Marketing?
For dynamic marketing lists such a process would be very hard to achieve, because a dynamic marketing list is a just a query returning matching contacts. Whether a contact matches a filter today but not tomorrow cannot easily be tracked - only by enabling tracking of contacts directly.
