How to Document Security Role Configuration

There used to be an XRMToolBox tool to export Security role details/settings to Excel, but it's not currently available.  Is there another way to extract the details of a security role in an easily readable format?  I want to document our settings, and send them to someone else so they can implement something very similar in their environment (so a solution export/import won't work).  It's amazing to me that this is not an out of the box feature.

Thanks.

    Hi

You could use one of the following XrmToolBox plugins

Kokulan, those seem to generate a mapping of Users and Security roles.  What I'm looking for is the settings inside a security role.  I don't see a way to get that with these tools.

    Hi Partner

You can use the Plugin name Entity security role in XRM Toolbox if that helps.

    Reference Article:www.xrmtoolbox.com/.../

Last time I checked (just a few days ago), it was Rejected in its current release.  I checked again today and it's accepted now.  Unfortunately after installing it, I get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when selecting Retrieve Entities.  XrmToolBox version 1.2020.10.41 and Entity Security Role version 1.2019.11.21.

    Hi there,

You could use one of the plugins from XRMToolBox called "User Security Manager".

This tool will allow you to generate a CSV file in a readable format.

    Hope this helps.

That seems to list the security roles assigned to users, not the settings in the security roles.  Let me know if I missed something in how to export the report.

Hi, yes, that's right. This tool will show the report on assigned users.

If you want to see how security roles are set up, you may try "CRM Security Role Compare" plugin from XRMToolBox.

Unfortunately, this won't give you an extract but you can select multiple roles at once and see how they are setup.

I'm aware of that one as well.  I'm looking to extract it to a CSV/Excel (or similar readable format) because I need to document the current settings and send them to a colleague for him to review and implement in another CE instance with different customizations (so exporting and importing this role won't work).

Last time I was looking for this I used https://github.com/santoshCRM/Export-Security-Role

Last time I used it it wasn't listed on the XRMToolbox website.  I also found a bug with it when exporting to Excel where it didn't export the last item displayed in the grid (I manually added that item to the exported Excel)

    LA,

I figured out how to download and install this since it's not listed in the XRMToolBox directly.  Now I'm having an issue where it won't export to Excel.  maybe not not compatible with the latest version of Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise.  Otherwise this is what I'm looking for.  It would be nice if it used the friendly Names instead of the logical names.
