How to do a refund in F&SCM

Hi Everyone,
 
Can anyone please let me know the way to process a refund to a customer who has a credit note on their account, and a scenario where there is no credit note

    In D365 F&SCM, customer refunds should ideally be processed against a credit note for proper audit and tax compliance. If a credit note exists, create a customer payment journal settle it against the credit note, and post the journal to refund the customer.

    If no credit note exists, the best practice is to first create a free-text invoice credit note (negative invoice) to establish a credit balance, then process the refund via a customer payment journal.

    Direct refunds without a credit note should only be used for overpayments or advance payment refunds, as they do not adjust revenue or tax and may raise audit concerns.

    Can you clarify which exact product you are using? In the title, you mentioned "F&SCM" where you tagged the post with "Microsoft Dynamics AX". "AX" is referring to the old product, where F&SCM is an abbreviation for some features in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.
