Has anyone tried successfully to install GP 2018 on a W2008 R2 Terminal Server. I finally talked a client into upgrading GP from 2010 but they still want to use their old T/S. I know on the server this is not supported but what about a T/S client?

If I had a nickel for every time I told my clients this I would no loner need to be working. Some people just refuse to upgrade. I feel like the Fram oil filter man. You can pay me a little bit now or a whole lot later. Not to mention when it does come crashing down it comes down hard! This is one of the reasons I think I need therapy. I do my best to stay one step ahead of the guys in the white coats. Just because they are always following me does not mean I am paranoid it just means there are people following me.
Richard,
Concerning those old platforms like "Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1", those customers should be aware that Extended Support End Date ends on 1/14/2020. This is according to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/search?alpha=windows%20server%202008%20r2&Filter=FilterNO
Thanks for the confirmation. I just convinced them to abandon the W2008 R2 server so W2012 R2 it is. I seem to have had a lot of clients lately refusing to get off the old platforms.
Hi Richard,
Yes this works.. I've upgraded my TEST bed system to GP 2018 and it runs Terminal Server to publish the apps under Windows 2012 STD.
The server runs off a VMWare VM with 2 CPU's and 8GB of RAM, on SQL Server 2012..
Everything more recent and compliant with GP 2018 should work.
Dynamics GP 2018 is only tested and thus supported on the Windows OS' that are referenced in the System Requirements for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 documentation:
Microsoft Windows Server
2016 Datacenter Edition, Essentials Edition or
Standard Edition
Microsoft Windows Server
2012 Datacenter Edition, Essentials Edition or
Standard Edition
Microsoft Windows Server
2012 R2 Datacenter Edition, Essentials Edition or
Standard Edition
Not sure about 'application delivery', but yes, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 is supported on the editions mentioned above.
Thank you,
Now they are talking about using Windows 2012 application delivery servers. My assumption is that this would a supported platform. Is that true?
Thanks Mariano, I figured as much but I thought I would throw the idea out there.
Yes, but the TS client talks to the Terminal Server, where the software is supposed to be installed. Still not supported.
