Hi all,

I created a field on the 'Products' entity and the 'Oportunity Product', and wanted that, when I create a Oportunity product, it would have by default the value of this field in the 'product' entity.

is it possible? I searched all around the internet and could not find a thing.

thank you in advance.

    Hi,

I'm not sure if it's possible with a workflow or mappings, but you can easily write a plugin to handle that. On the pre-operation of the create event of the opportunity product, retrieve the associated product and copy the field values.

Hope this helps! If so, I'd appreciate if you would mark this as the verified answer.

    Thanks,

     Aiden

    Hi,

Here's a good write-up about setting up field mappings: msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg334512.aspx

Mappings are neat because they let you prefill values from one record to a related one (exactly what you're looking for). The only thing I'm not sure about is if it restricts to only certain entities.

    Good luck!

    Thanks,

     Aiden

    thank you,

but it seems that this relationship between the product and the opportunity product cannot have the maps edited, so sad = (.

I'm still stucked here, I got that I cannot map the field from product to opportunity product, so I'm trying to map from product to quote product, I got the mapping and all, but still the fields in quote product are not being loaded, is there any problem with the maps, or there is something else I must do?

I did some more reading on this, and the field mappings work only if you are on the main record (the product) and create the associated record from it. From: msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg334512.aspx

"Mapping in Microsoft Dynamics CRM streamlines data entry when you create new records that are associated with another record. When an entity has an entity relationship with another entity, you can create new related entity records by using the Create Related tab in the ribbon. When you create a new record in this manner, mapped data from the primary entity record is copied to the form for the new related entity record. By mapping entity attributes, you control what data is copied by adding new mappings in the relationship between the two entities. If you create a record in any way other than from the associated view of the primary entity, data is not mapped."

so, how I'm creating the "quote product" from the opportunity form it would not work?

so it makes me wonder how the system fills the fields in the quote product like, product name when I create a quote from Opportunity. =(

Hi, if your field is not use for processing and your CRM version is 2013 and above, you can give a try on Quick View Form Feature,

Add quick view form  in Product

drag the field into the form.

in Opportunity Product, you can insert the Quick View Form , refer to below picture
