How to disable a workflow from a managed solution (365)

I imported a managed solution which included two workflows; it was developed by a colleague.

  1. The workflows show up as components of the managed solution, but not as processes.  Neither do they show up as processes in the default solution (customizations.)  I can't deactivate them.  Why?  What is the purpose of this change from previous versions?
  2. The workflows are not customizable because we don't want someone to change the "code".  How do we accomplish this yet still allow administrators to shut off the functionality?  The option to use but not to modify?

thanks for your consideration

    1. Are they Business Rules ? By some definitions (MS terminology is ambiguous in places) these could as processes, but within a solution are viewed under Business Rules within the entity

    2. Unfortunately there are not specific Managed Properties that would allow you this level of control. One workaround is to split the workflow into 2. Change the existing workflow to be triggered only as a child workflow, and leave it non-customisable. The create another workflow with the triggers, which calls the initial as a child workflow. Make these new workflow customisable so that you can disable it

    1. In my case they are workflows which would otherwise be controlled from the processes branch of the components tree.

    2. Perhaps in the future.  Good idea for workaround.  Thanks again.
