Dynamics GP 10 Slow, Stuck on Logging into server

Hi, we are deploying a new Citrix XenApp Farm on x64 Windows Server 2003 Std R2 SP2 physical machines and are having problems with a fresh install of GP 10.

When a new user logs into citrix and wants to use GP it takes around 5 minutes to get past the log in screen after entering their credentials. This is the screen it gets stuck on.

After 5minutes of waiting Dynamics works as it should.

Everything is locally on the computer, eg. dynamics.set file all points to dictionary paths locally.

What I've noticed is the NTUSER.dat file starts to increase from a normal 1mb file to a massive 40mb file while it is trying to log in. I have ran regmon to try and capture some of the data and it is just constant queries and writes to the registry from Dynamics.exe.

A 40mb NTUSER.dat file is not ideal especially when their using roaming profiles.

The next time the user logs into Citrix and uses the same windows profile this issue does not happen. Dynamics loads up properly and quickly.

Using the same installation documentation this problem does not happen on 32bit machines or Server 2008 x64 machines. The NTUSER.dat files on these machines are still tiny, eg. 1-3mb max. It just seems to be with Windows 2003 x64 as far as I can tell at this stage.

I have read over this post: https://community.dynamics.com/forums/p/16614/24460.aspx#24460

Although his issue is a little different, our citrix server definitely has full access to the internet.

I hope someone has encountered this issue and has been able to fix it or may be able to point me in the right direction so that I can get this resolved.

Please let me know if more information is needed.

Thanks,

Loris

I have been doing some further testing today.

I created a new virtual machine with windows 2003 x64.

I then installed Dynamics GP 10 using the same installation documentation as above.

When a user logs in through RDP and uses GP, it logs in normally and straight away.

I then installed terminal services, performed a restart and tried the above again. I then suffered the same issue. Dynamics gets stuck on Logging into server. The NTUSER.dat grows until it reaches about 18mb and then Dynamics becomes responsive again and functions as normal.

So there is an issue with Dynamics GP 10 and terminal services in Server 2003 x64.

Anyone have any info on why this is happening?

    Thanks,

    Loris

Make sure you are not roaming the users' temp directory folders to your Terminal Server. Dynamics GP tends to store a lot of info in the temp folders and that can cause logins to be slow.

Make sure you do not have a DEXSQL.LOG running -- check your DEX.INI file on terminal server and look for

    SQLLogODBCMessages=TRUE

    SQLLogSQLStmt=TRUE

Set them to FALSE if currently set to TRUE.

Make sure your ODBC configuration is as suggested by Microsoft for 64-bit environments and that you are using SQL Native Client.

    Thanks for the reply.

At the moment I am not testing with roaming users, they're local at the moment.

I have checked the dex.ini and both are set to FALSE.

I am definitley using the SQL Native Client.

Can you please provide me with more info regarding the suggested ODBC configuration Microsoft recommends for 64bit environments?

    Thanks,

    Loris

    Hi Loris,

Here is the link to the recommendations from Microsoft for 64-bit (Partnersource access required):

You may want to check the Printers on the Terminal Server.

Had a similar issue on site where it was taking 4 Mins + to log into GP10.  Was told by Techinical Support that GP tries to connect to printers at login.  By removing printers on the Terminal Server we got this down to 40 seconds.

     Hope this helps

Our printers are mapped via logon script. I have removed the logon script from the account I am testing with and it hasnt made a difference.
