Clarification about inventory blocking

I have a requirement to prevent registered items from being consumed until product receipt is completed. I just tried the 'inventory blocking' functionality, but seems it won't work. I created inventory blocking transactions for on-hand qty (with registered status) but system allows me to consume it (using a movement journal). Blocking is not working even for on-hand qty with 'received' status. Please let me know if I missed something here.

- How exactly 'inventory blocking' works in D365?

- Possible to use 'Inventory blocking' for preventing the consumption of registered (or received) items?

- If not, what would be the best way to achieve this?

    Hello,

If you have a basic stock management (without WMS activated), you should try the batch disposition code, available on the item model group.

Your items will be batch control, but you can setup the "status" of availability of your batch (from your item model group, go to view detail from the batch disposition code and you'll see what I mean).

    Hi Yohann,

Thanks. But my items are not batch controlled. They are either serial or non-serial items. I have 'warehouse management process' enabled for items and warehouses. I tried to use inventory status with 'inventory blocked', but even then system is allowing the items to be consumed in a movement journal.

    Regards,

    Sreehari.

    Hi Sreehari,

The inventory status can block items for outbound operations using the warehouse. So e.g. sales orders, transfer orders, project consumption, production orders. A movement journal is excluded as it should be possible to dispose expired or broken items.
