Production Order End Date

Hello all,

I am currently looking at how the end date of a production order is calculated and where the info comes from within AX to be able to do the calculation. I have so far established its relationship is with scheduling production orders. Its at this point that the date is calculated.

But, I am not sure on what influences this, is it inventory currently in the system, capacity restrictions put on the system for the plant, the scheduling direction or what?

I have included a screenshot below to show the end date I am discussing.

Typically this is an output from either the operation or job scheduling process for manufactured items, though if you don't do this, it can also come from item coverage or default order settings (and this is what's used for planned purchase orders). So that cover's where it comes from, not how it's determined. That's a more complex answer, depends on many things like the routing, resources, calendars, finite or infinite capacity settings, etc.

Yes, as Chan sais. The planning of the route (operations) on a production order determine the end time and date on your production order. The route contains the steps of work (operations) required to finish producing an item. Operations scheduling takes setup and process time in to consideration, while job planning takes a wide range of time like setup, process, queue before/after, transit time between operations and so on. Then resources and their calendars are used to fan this out in time and maintain working hours and capacity. Giving you a pretty decent estimation of finished date. That is... If you input good data for the planning engine to work with. It is most of the time worth putting in the effort to get this engine working for you.

    Note:

The inventory lead time (found on the items default order settings) could be used if no routes are present.
